Today I'm sharing my idea that started with a picture that was going to be a card and ended up being an inspiration piece sitting on my crafting desk for me to look at this year (or until I change it!). Thanks Crafty Challenge for giving this diverse group of demonstrators the opportunity to share some great ideas with you - grab your favourite bevvy and join us and be inspired as you "hop" from one post to the next! The list is at the bottom so you can easily check out every post - and do leave us a comment - we love to hear from you!
Our Crafty Challenge Blog Hop this month is to use these colours so I had the perfect background to make my design!
My starting point came from the Brilliant Wings Dies that are part of the Butterfly Brilliance Bundle in the Annual catalogue (p 158) and the sample from our concept artists on that page.
To get all the die cuts on one page, I cut my Basic White Thick Cardstock at 5 1/2" x 6 1/4". I also cut a piece of chipboard from a Paper Pumpkin kit down to 6" x 6 3/4". I covered it with a sheet of Designer Series Paper from the FREE Simply Marbelous Sale-a-bration flyer, adding a small strip near the bottom to complete the background.
Next I grabbed three sheets of the DSP in the colours from our challenge and the same large die cut used on the Basic White CS, and die cut the butterflies from each page.
I glued the Basic White die cut layer to the background then added my die cut our butterflies - two of each colour. I used the individual butterfly die cuts to cut some in the Layering Designs Vellum from the Spring Mini, and the rest from Basic White Cardstock.
The butterflies were added with glue dots into the corresponding spaces.
The greeting is stamped in Highland Heather from In The Moment stamp set (Spring Mini) and punched with the Essential Tag Punch in the Annual Catalogue. The finishing touch was some Pool Party Sheer Ribbon and I added a mini clothes pin from my stash.
Love how this looks on my desk to remind me to take some time to just RELAX!
Want to shop with me - then use this link and my current Host Code XB63GSJ6 to get in on my shared Host Rewards program each month - draws happen the day after my Craft and Chat events each month on Zoom. You can find out more on my Events page on my website!
If you've been at one of my classes, either in person or online then you know I love using our masks to add some colouring texture to cards. Some places refer to these wonder tools as stencils but in the Stampin' Up! world they are called Decorative Masks.
Now that we have Blending Brushes we have the best combination of tools to create some fun (and fast) cards or layout backgrounds. What do you need to get started? You need a mask (stencil), ink colours of your choice, Blending Brushes (or sponges and sponge daubers work too until you get your brushes), and some cardstock to make your design. That's it! To finish your card, you will want to add a greeting and maybe some embellishments, but that's totally up to you and how much creativity you have today - or how much time you have to finish up your card!!
Here's the Decorative Masks that are in the current Annual Catalogue p 128- there are two sets of 4 designs in each package Basic Patterns and Plenty of Patterns -
And here's the Butterflies & Flowers Decorative Layering Masks p 65 found in the January-June 2022 (Spring) Mini Catalogue -
Here's a one of my card ideas for you from recent times . . . . masks make a really quick way to add some extra eye candy to your envelope flap too.
Here's a quick video shared by Stampin' Up! to give you some ideas - when you are ready to shop I'd love to have you use my online store (click here) and the current Host Code XB63GSJ6 so I can track your orders, and put your name in the draws for shared Host Rewards each month! I draw for Host Rewards the day after my Craft and Chat events on Zoom. Want to join me? Send me a message or email to get on the list! Everyone is welcome from wherever you sign in!

My card today features the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks in the January-June 2022 Mini catalogue. These are just a bit different than the ones in the Annual Catalogue, as they allow you to create a layering effect with some of the images . . . like my butterflies today. Some people call these stencils - they all allow you to do the same type of sponging colour onto cardstock. I do like the background designs as well as the more solid butterflies and flowers in the pack. Great value to work with our Blending Brushes too - makes it so easy to create smooth images in no time! The Blending Brushes wash up so well that I've been able to work with six for various colours - and you can rub off excess colour during your sponging on a microfiber cloth - no need to wash up until you're are done!
I'm including some details and tips to get your images where you want them - hopefully they will encourage you to try this with your masks soon. If you don't have any masks you can always make your own with die cuts on Window Sheets or even cardstock - I'd love to see what you come up with from your crafting supplies!
Light tack painter's tape or some washi tape from your stash will help keep the paper and mask/stencil in place while you sponge. Be sure to cover up areas you don't want to sponge so there is no extra lines or colour where you didn't plan it.
It's easy to go back and add the second layer of colour with the detailed design - and your original sponging does show through so you can easily line up the images.
I usually try to add something to my envelopes - either on the front or the flap and this card is no different - easy to add some sponging with the brushes and mask on the back flap. The Silicone Mat underneath keeps every bit of inking where you want it!
I did this card with my Craft and Chat last week and they all liked being reminded of how easy it is to use our Blending Brushes to add colour to our projects. The greeting is from the Sale-a-bration set called Special Moments and is perfect to send to a friend! Colours used were Balmy Blue with Highland Heather over top, and Pear Pizzazz for the background on the card and envelope. I also used some Sale-a-bration Designer Series Paper behind my sponging layer - from Friendly Hello pack and added Fresh Freesia ribbon to coordinate! Does it make you think Spring??
Here's the masks in the Spring Mini for you to look at and if you are ready to buy I'd love to have you shop with me. Use this link to go direct to my store and shop online and you will get my thank you each month. If you use my current Host Code XB63GSJ6 I can include you in my draws for shared Host Rewards each month. Ask me for more info or to be on my list for my Zoom Craft and Chat nights.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to share some of the new suites in the January - June Spring Mini 2022 so you can see how the products are being used and get some ideas for your own card making or papercrafting plans.
The New Horizons Suite Collection includes On The Horizon Stamps, Horizon Dies, a pack of amazing 6" x 6" New Horizons Designer Series Papers and some cotton ribbons and adorable Pebbles Enamel Shapes. I think I've included all of them in my sample card I made to share today!
The Designer Series Papers are like no other . . . they have detailed background landscapes right on the paper so you can cut parts of the sheet for your cards and have a background ready to use! I trimmed one sheet to 3 3/4" x 5" to use and even did my two die cuts from the sheet before turning it over and using the opposite side on my card front.
Here's a couple of pictures of my card and some of the products used. I decided to make the card featured on p 42 in the lower right to show how easy it is to create with new products if you aren't sure what you want to make. I started with a standard Misty Moonlight Cardstock for the base, added the New Horizons Designer Series Paper after die cutting the two bits for the front, stamped a Crumb Cake grass image on the Basic White Cardstock layer (3 1/2" x 4 3/4") and a greeting in Memento Black Ink. I then embossed this layer with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder.
I added the ribbon to the layer with Stampin' Seal, then popped the blue die cut on top with Dimensionals. Next I added the fence piece - it was stamped with the "bark" image on Shimmery White Cardstock then die cut. Add two Glue Dots to adhere the left side, then raise the fence a touch in the middle and fasten the right side down with a third glue dot. The grass die cut goes on top. Add some of the adhesive backed pebbles to your scene and it's ready to send! I did add a strip of the DSP from my first cuts to the envelope front side.
Here's a quick video from Stampin' Up! to introduce you to all the parts of the suite - I know you'll love using it as much as I am!!

While we are still seeing snow everywhere, I'm reading that many of you are dreaming of some sunshine and warm weather. So let's skip looking outdoors and bring some sunshine into our crafting rooms with these two coordinating products from the new Spring Mini (Artfully Composed Suite) and the Sale-a-bration flyer (Island Vibes)!
My inspiration today came from Freshly Made Sketches and it allowed me to use some of the Artfully Composed Designer Series Papers in the Spring Mini (p 33) and pair the papers with one of the images in the FREE Island Vibes stamp set included in this years Sale-a-Bration offering. Here's the sketch:
And here's my interpretation of the sketch - all the patterned papers come from the Artfully Composed DSP which has some great tropical colours for you to have lots of fun with while you are dreaming of the beaches and ocean waves! The artfully Layered Bundle has such a variety of tropical leaves and images to stamp and die cut that you'll be able to create so many great cards. And if you can't visit the tropics right now, at least you can create layouts with the photos and memories of your past trips!
My card base is Thick Basic White with a layer of Designer Series Paper 4" x 4". I added a 3 3/4" square of Basic White Cardstock to the DSP, after scoring lightly on all four sides for some texture. The rectangles from the sketch were punched using the Rectangle Postage Punch, then I cut 1 1/4'squares from the DSP strip I used for the punch. I stamped the "thank you" greeting in Evening Evergreen, which is the main colour in the dark squares.
The potted plant was first stamped in Sahara Sand, but seemed too neutral so I inked up the leaves in Just Jade, and the pot in Pale Papaya, then stamped off before stamping lightly over the Sahara Sand. I then added Wink of Stella and was quite happy when my picture actually showed it!
There are so many great coordinating products in the Spring Mini and Sala-a-bration flyer that you'll have lots of inspiration no matter which ones you choose! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
You can shop my online store here, or message or call me to help you with your orders. If you shop online, please use my current Host Code YJAQUPUR so I can put you into my draws at the end of the month for shared Host Rewards.
